Obliged as Secondary(Orange Green Purple)
Obliged as Secondary(Orange Green Purple)
acrylic paint, colored pencil on Dura-Lar
2007

This piece makes reference to the fleeting nature of people coming and going within the space of the bus. Seats occupied, unoccupied and re-occupied imply the sense of movement.

Color swatches in the bottom corner are painted thickly on the surface and travel from the front to the back of the paper in a swooping line. The paint is tangibly placed on the surface and fades onto the backside, under a fog of the “frosted” paper.

The title, “Obliged as Secondary” refers to the color-wheel’s hierarchy, but also to the circumstance of those with no private means of transportation.
